Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bachchan’s Bawarchi to be remade, Anushree Mehta to direct the remake – India TV

Filmmaker Anushree Mehta, who is understood for helming Radhika Apte-starrer Mrs Undercover, will now be directing the Hindi remake of the a lot cherished 1972 basic Bawarchi, initially helmed by iconic Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

The difference of the Hrishikesh Mukherjee directorial would be the first film out of the three-film collaboration between Jaadugar Movies and Sameer Raj Sippy Productions. They may also remake timeless classics like Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan starrer Mili (1975) and Gulzar’s iconic 1972 drama Koshish.

Anushree described directing the Bawarchi adaptation as a ‘kaleidoscopic mixture’ of being excited, honoured, humbled coupled with the notice of shouldering a ‘huge accountability’.

“When my enterprise associate Abir Sengupta (Jaadugar Movies), Sameer Raj Sippy and I made a decision to affix fingers to provide these three iconic movies, we have been clear that we would depart no stone unturned in remaking them with utmost love and respect. Throughout our dialogue on Bawarchi, Abir and Sameer have been of the opinion that I ought to be writing and directing the remake,” IANS reported quoting the director. 

“They have been satisfied that I’d be capable of inform the story in a way which might make them proud. We have been in sync with our imaginative and prescient and I whole-heartedly agreed to come back board because the writer-director,” the director added.

The OG household comedy drama featured an ensemble led by actors Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bachchan and Asrani amongst others. Bawarchi was a remake of Rabi Ghosh-starrer 1966 Bengali movie Galpo Holeo Satti by Tapan Sinha.

Speaking about retaining the soul of the OG movie intact, she additional added, “The thought of retelling a movie is to adapt it in line with the present occasions and make it extra relatable to the world we stay in right now—whereas retaining the soul and objective of the unique intact. Since Bawarchi itself was a remake of a Bengali movie, Hrishida in his time recreated it and made it relatable to that period.”

The movie will go on flooring in 2024. Casting of the movie can also be underway.
