Over the course of two weeks, beginning on September 19, some 100,000 Armenians fled the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh in an exodus prompted by Azerbaijan’s invasion of the contested area, which had been ruled by ethnic Armenians for some three a long time. In Perspective, we spoke to Richard Giragosian, the founding director of the Regional Research Middle – an impartial think-tank in Yerevan – to debate Azerbaijan’s current takeover. The invasion represented a navy victory of “authoritarian energy over struggling democracy”, Giragosian mentioned, including that the worldwide neighborhood may have contributed extra to assist Armenia fend off Azerbaijani forces.
