Gold hallmarking is a purity certification of the valuable metallic and was voluntary in nature until June 16, 2021, when the federal government determined to implement necessary gold hallmarking in a phased method.

Eight districts, together with East Champaran, shall be coated in Bihar, 5 districts every in Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, and 4 districts in Telangana beneath the third section.
Three districts every shall be coated in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, whereas two districts every in Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
In Rajasthan, the necessary gold hallmarking shall be carried out in a single district — Jalore — in the course of the third section.
Nodal company Bureau of Indian Requirements (BIS) has efficiently carried out necessary hallmarking within the final two phases, whereby greater than 4 lakh gold articles are being hallmarked with Hallmark Distinctive Identification (HUID) each day.
For the reason that implementation of necessary hallmarking, the ministry stated, the variety of registered jewellers has elevated from 34,647 to 1,81,590, whereas Assaying and Hallmarking Facilities (AHCs) rose to 1,471 from 945.
